What you focus your mind on, you attract more of. In the midst of this global crisis, this law has been adequately demonstrated to me. When we are able to be present in the moment and not allow our mind to create fearful thoughts, we become at peace with any circumstance that surrounds us. When we are distracted by thoughts of the past or the future that do not serve us, we set ourselves on a course for destruction. Finding the calm within the storm really is the lesson.
This can be so difficult with the never ending cycle of fear permeating our society. You open social media, initiating a wave of panic. Something has triggered your automatic brain response, activating your limbic brain and it takes over, looking for the solution, any solution to make the panic end. The media feeds off of this perpetual fear. Governments get stronger, large corporations get bigger and suddenly we wake up disoriented and confused. The cycle of fear needs to end. When you find yourself spiraling out of control, stop the noise. End the distraction. Put down your phone, turn off the tv. Pause, deep breath, cry, release, reset. More deep breaths, listen to your body. Identify the feeling, pause again. Relax your muscles head to toe. Now, concentrate on this very specific single moment. Are you safe? Are you healthy? Not last week, not the worry of tomorrow, just now, this very second. Acknowledge your reality. There is no fear here. There is safety. You are safe.
So much of how we live is habit and comparison. You are a unique individual that doesn’t need anyone’s permission to feel how you want to feel. There is a collective suffocation of information that insists we must fear what we don’t understand, what we don’t know. Why not lean into that and search for answers. I believe we are capable of much more than we realize. Instead of the fear based media we accept as reality, look for those that offer health solutions and innovation, alternative thinking and collaboration. We need encouragement and support. Shift your perspective.
